Banished

Banished

As the name suggests, we help a group of people who have been exiled from their homeland build a new settlement. During this process, you have to face many incidents like epidemics, diseases, fires, disasters (earthquakes, hurricanes, etc.), difficulties during seasonal transitions (in winter, crops can’t mature in the fields), etc. If you don’t want disasters, you can turn them off from the settings.

From the moment you enter the game, a soft music awaits you that will calm you down. It’s music that will wrap you in its magic and help you experience the game as you play through the night.

In the game, we have 4 options to accelerate time: 1x, 2x, 5x, and 10x. At 10x speed, the game advances very quickly, so your village develops fast, but you may not be able to react quickly to unexpected events, which can lead to your village’s demise. I recommend playing with the 2x and 5x speed settings. The default speed is quite slow.

Be careful not to quickly spend the resources given at the start and use the control windows the game menu offers carefully, because you can see how many people are working where, and you can make instant changes regarding your resources and citizens.

There’s a wonderfully thought-out family system in the game. People can live together and have children, which not only increases your village’s population but also provides more workforce in the future. The most important thing to pay attention to here is the houses you’ll build in your city. Because people want to move into a house of their own before having children. So, they’re a bit shy. If you keep 5 families in the same house, those families will stop reproducing. To keep this under control, it’s enough to keep building new houses; once children reach adulthood, they automatically settle into empty houses with a partner and have children shortly after.

You can activate a panel to control the occupations of people. When you start the game, every person is a Laborer, a jack-of-all-trades worker. You can assign them to many occupation groups such as hunter, worker, gatherer, woodcutter, and teacher. Once they are given an occupation, they go to the relevant building to work there.

Starting conditions change according to the difficulties in the game.

  • Easy: 6 families, plenty of every raw material, ready animals for animal husbandry, ready storage. Ready house for each family.
  • Medium: 5 families, one or two types of seeds, saplings, ready storage, medium level of raw materials.
  • Hard: 4 families, supply wagon, low level of raw materials.

Be careful to use your provisions wisely; food and wood are consumed quickly, so be careful. Apart from all these, don’t forget about the tailor who makes winter clothing and the blacksmith who makes tools. If you love management games, I definitely recommend you try it. The game even has a sad side; when villagers die after their lifespan ends, you need to build graves, or else people’s morale drops.
