DayZ - Review

DAYZ

DAYZ

The post-apocalyptic survival game DayZ is a game where realism is at the highest level. At first, since it was a mod of Arma 2, this realism is quite natural. In the game, we start on the coast of an island called Chernarus with very little equipment to survive, and in front of us is an island ready to kill us, thousands of zombies, and your biggest enemy, other people, whom you must pay the most attention to.

DAYZ

In DayZ, the map is very large and detailed which is great for players because you can't trust people in this game; if someone isn't your friend, trying to talk to them is the same as signing your own death sentence. Of course, not every player is this hostile; some may want to help, but even for a small item, they can kill you without hesitation. On this detailed and large map, all sorts of equipment and items you may need are distributed in certain regions of the map. You can enter military bases to find weapons, ammo, and similar things. You can loot clinics or hospitals for medical supplies. Or you can enter any village or town for food and similar items. Or if your life isn't very precious to you, you can enter large cities and if you survive, you can collect big loot. There is a lot of variety in clothes, weapons, medical equipment, and general items and you can find them plenty in Chernarus—if no one else visited there before you.

DAYZ

We mentioned realism, and we really mean realism. If you are attacked by zombies or people, you will start bleeding, and unless you dress your wounds and use medicine, life gradually gets darker until you pass out and finally die. If you jump or fall from a high place, your bones can break and you start walking with a limp, making you more vulnerable to future attacks. If you stay outside in cold, rainy weather, you may get sick. If you drink from dirty waters, you can get poisoned. As I said, you are facing an island that is out to kill you in every way possible. Sooner or later you will die—what matters is what you experience and learn until you die, because after death you will lose everything you've collected and start from scratch on the coast again. The only thing you can bring with you from your previous lives are your experiences.

DAYZ

In the game you can hunt wildlife, hunt people in cities, or travel with vehicles. Yes, vehicles exist in DayZ and they are very important for such a massive map. As someone who played even its earliest versions, traveling the whole map on foot takes a very long time and makes you feel like you are in a running simulator. However, since we can constantly discover new places, we never get bored or say "I’ve had enough." On the contrary, you ask yourself: What’s ahead? What’s behind those mountains? If I go through the forest beside me, will something bad happen? Unexpected people can pop out from unexpected places and kill you with a single bullet. By the way, in the game there is no such thing as single player, you are together with everyone.

DayZ, which has finally reached full release after a long early access journey—good or bad. The game continues to get updates every month. It is one of the rare gems among survival-zombie games. If you are interested in this genre, I definitely recommend you to play it. Finally, to not get lost on the island, open the game’s map on your phone or computer and keep your surroundings in mind, you should quickly answer the question "Where am I?" and build your plan, then take action. Because someone has already started moving to kill you.

My rating for the game: 🎮🎮🎮🎮
