Mount and Blade: Warband
Also known as Warband, the legendary game made by TaleWorlds. One of those timeless games, played with delight by people of all ages over the years, with lots of mods, and never getting old. It was released on March 30, 2010, and until the series' new game Bannerlord came out, it was a favorite of most people. If you haven’t played this game, drop everything after reading this article and go play Mount and Blade: Warband, you will never regret it.
So what is this game about? It's a role-playing sandbox style game. The objective in this game set in a land called Calradia is: whatever you want to be or do, that is your goal. This means: You can become a lone warrior roaming the land, helping villagers and hunting bandits. You can be a mercenary for any lord of your choice or you can gather an army under his banner and help that lord and country rule the land. Best of all, if you want to become the ruler of Calradia, you can found your own country. You can even play as a bandit if you want, raiding caravans and attacking villages.
Let’s talk a bit about the beginning of this game that gives us diversity. At first, you must create a character. Name, appearance, and who you are. That last part about who you are is a very nice detail because you choose how you want to play the game. Of course, your wrong choices won’t stick with you until the end of the game. In the game, for the skill you want to develop, you need to use that skill. You need to ride a horse for riding skill, and you need to use two-handed weapons in battles for your two-handed skill to improve. As you level up, you earn points, which you distribute to your attributes (Strength, Agility, Intelligence, Charisma), skills, and proficiencies. You try to improve your character by both using skills and leveling up and distributing points.
Character development is very satisfying and nice in this game. Throughout the game, you earn gold by fighting and completing quests, and with this you buy better armor, weapons, and horses to become stronger, and you feel it. Horses are very valuable in this game, don’t forget that. When you are not in battle or in a city, what you will see is a bird’s eye view of Calradia’s lands. You can ride your horse and travel around the land or you may collect tribute.
So many more events and details are waiting for you in Mount and Blade Warband. For example, marriage, convincing lords to your side, friendship relationships, how settlements view you, opening shops, finding food for your troops, reading books, taking companions with you (and these companions are very valuable), conducting sieges, fighting field battles, raiding bandit hideouts... This list goes on and on. I don’t like reviews to be too long, so I don't want to talk about these details and how to do them. You will find everything I have mentioned, listed, and even so many more things I haven’t mentioned in Warband. What are you waiting for, Calradia is waiting for you.
