Natural Selection 2 - Review
Natural Selection 2
First a Half Life mod, then a standalone game, Natural Selection 2 beautifully combines both FPS and RTS genres and presents them to us. The Marines and Aliens (Khaara) teams fight against each other. While the playstyle of both sides is different, this difference adds realism to the game. After one player from each side becomes a commander, the game starts. If none of the players want to be the commander, a bot becomes the commander. The commander plays directly from the map, giving you orders and assisting you. He also needs to spend resources correctly, otherwise both he and the soldiers will suffer from every wasted resource in the late stages of the game.
This is not a story-driven game, so you jump directly into battle by joining servers online. If a player dies, they can rejoin the battle after a certain amount of time if there is a respawn point. Capturing resource points on the map is very important because those resources allow the marines to upgrade their technologies and aliens to evolve. Consequently, the side that develops faster can fight more comfortably and can destroy the opposing side more easily. Each player has their own resource points, with which they can get new weapons, equipment or transform into different creatures.

If you are playing on the Marines side, as you advance through the dark areas of the map, you feel fear and excitement to the fullest. The tension increases as you start hearing alien sounds, since you never know where they will come from. However, once you start being able to build mechs called exosuits, things become easier for the marines because as you advance in technology you become stronger compared to the aliens.

Aliens can climb walls, fly, and camouflage themselves, offering players a much different FPS experience. Their real name is "Khaara." Every alien starts the game as a Skulk, a predatory creature that can climb walls. If the commander has researched it and the player has enough points, they can evolve into Gorge, Lerk, Fade, or Onos. Each of these units has different features. Gorge can build structures and has healing abilities, Lerk can fly and attack from a distance, Fade is fast and deals heavy damage to marines but less to structures, almost like an assassin. Onos, on the other hand, is essential as a tank.
