Squid Game is a South Korean production on Netflix and one of the most talked about series in recent times. Since its release, it hasn't left the trending list. It doesn't seem like it will for a long time either.

Let's Briefly Explain the Plot of the Series

Our main character's name is Seong Gi Hun. A man whose luck never turned in life, who has experienced many painful events in his past, and is buried in debt. He's even about to lose his bodily immunity because he can't pay his debts. He has a 10-year-old daughter from his ex-wife.
One day, a strange man in a suit whom he meets in the subway offers him a proposal that will turn his entire life upside down. He says he can play a game and earn money. Seong Gi thinks this stranger is some kind of salesman or advertiser and doesn't take it seriously. He refuses the offer.
When he returns home, he learns that his ex-wife will move to America with their daughter. Knowing he needs money to keep his daughter with him, he desperately calls the stranger and accepts the offer. He is put to sleep in the minibus he boards to be taken to the game area. He wakes up as contestant number 456 in a place resembling a student dormitory.

There Are Only 3 Rules...

This strange competition has only 3 rules.
Rule 1: A player cannot quit the game.
Rule 2: A player who refuses to play is eliminated.
Rule 3: If the majority agrees, the games can be terminated.
There are a total of 456 players in this game. They are all the unlucky people of this life, thinking they will play children's games and win money. But it's not that simple. Let's just say 255 people are eliminated in the first game alone. In this game, there is no mercy! The moment you're eliminated is the moment you die!

Series Review

First of all, if we evaluate it in general terms, we can say that it is a very fluent series. It doesn't bore the viewer. The acting never stands out in a bad way. Moreover, the cast truly includes some of South Korea's finest actors. At the end of each episode, there is always a detail that encourages you to watch the next one. For viewers who can put themselves in the character's shoes and think "What would I do?", it is a complete thriller series.
In terms of subject; it is reminiscent of "The Hunger Games" series, but only gives a hint of it. The series has its own originality. We watch what a person can endure and risk to escape the ambition of money and desperation—it's a complete dystopia.
At the beginning of the series, you may wonder why they don't use the third rule to save themselves. But let me remind you; the contestants are so carefully selected that no one's life will get better. Outside of the competition, there is already a life worse than death...
