What is a Podcast?

Podcasting is the publication of media products, generally in series and as a sequence, via the internet through feeds in such a way that they can be downloaded to devices with internet access. The files downloaded in this way are called podcasts.

Podcast was created in the 2000s by merging the word "pod" from "iPod" and the word "broadcast." "Pod" means small capsule, while "broadcast" means transmission or airing.

Although podcasts were initially developed for the iPod, today they have surpassed the iPod and have become a part of our lives with many popular applications. (Like the author, who doesn't have an iPod, listening to podcasts via Spotify..)

The only difference between the podcast system and downloading any audio or video recording from the internet is that it is downloaded via a feed, that is, using notifications. This way, when a new episode is released, it is downloaded automatically, and the listener/viewer can follow the episodes without missing any.

Areas of Use

Although the main purpose of podcasts is entertainment, today they have also started to be used for work and educational purposes, and their use for these purposes is increasing day by day.

Why Podcast?

  1. You can watch or listen at any time; since they are updated and downloaded when there is an internet connection, you can watch or listen to them later even if you don't have internet.
  2. You can watch or listen as many times as you want.
  3. Because they are updated automatically, that is, thanks to the subscription system, you don't miss new episodes and can access them easily.
  4. You can easily share or receive podcasts with any device connected to the internet.
