A site that uses the slogan "The front page of the Internet" and truly is the front page of the internet. Its founding date is June 23, 2005, and it is still actively used. According to 2018 data, it is said to have 330 million members. Nowadays, I estimate that it has 500+ million users. It is said that the daily user count is 52+ million, so we can say that billions of people visit the site. So what is Reddit? What is it used for? 

    Posts are shared in sub-groups created by users, you can think of these as topic headings to understand more quickly. These sub-groups are called subreddits. Subreddits begin with "r/" (while user names begin with "u/"). Topic headings can cover all sorts of categories, for example: games, music, cars, movies... and so on. When you share in these sub-groups or leave comments, people can vote on what you've written, allowing you to gain or lose "karma" points. The person who started a subreddit is the owner and can make anyone a moderator. These moderators can delete unwanted posts or comments, or even ban a person from the subreddit. Additionally, Reddit has its own set of rules and admins. They have the same powers as subreddit moderators, but they can also remove someone from all of Reddit or delete subreddits.

    Reddit is used in English by about 80% of its users. However, there are posts in other languages as well. Its usage in Turkey has greatly increased in the last year, and I think our people are finding it quite easy to adapt. One nice thing about Reddit, the place where most online discussions and posts originate, is the ability to exchange ideas with thousands of people quickly, or to gather and make jokes, or to share real information and inform people. 

    Reddit’s rules are so normal and natural that it almost seems unnecessary to write them down as rules, but they are really needed. There are all kinds of people in this world, and no one thinks exactly like you. To read Reddit’s rules, just click here. My favorite rule, and the one people forget most often, is the very first one. "Remember the human. When communicating online, all you see is a computer screen. When talking to someone, you should ask yourself 'Would I say this to that person's face?'" This should actually be the rule for the entire internet, not just Reddit, no matter how much technology evolves or which platform you use. You are not just reading the words on the screen; you are communicating with a human being on the other side who is sharing their feelings and problems. So, whether it's yesterday, today, or tomorrow, be polite when browsing and commenting on the internet.
