Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization - Review

Today I will talk about one of the games I played at home during the recent quarantine. This game, which I played on the Nintendo Switch, is based on the anime I once watched, and after watching and loving the anime, I really enjoyed playing the game as well.

It is an RPG game where we freely roam the universe from the anime, gain xp from monsters, level up, upgrade our weapons, and create lots of combos with new skills to defeat boss monsters at the end of each level.

It's a game that RPG lovers will truly enjoy, so let's dive a little deeper into the details of this game.

When you first enter the game, it asks you to create your character and presents you with many options. You customize your character with these options, enter your username, and then you step into the SAO universe.

After entering, you embark on a simple story journey with the main character in the SAO universe. The characters who explain what you need to do in the game first give you information about how to use skills and how to unlock and upgrade them. After having your first combat experience with wolves, you slowly progress through the game and try to complete the story.

Don’t pay too much attention to me calling it a story, we actually complete quests. The game has many kinds of quests: main quests, side quests, character quests, and daily quests.

While the main quests follow a specific storyline, the side quests are totally independent, progressing through monster quests on different maps.

Character quests are built around small stories for certain NPC characters in the game.

Daily quests are missions you can do by doing what other NPC characters in the game ask. Tasks like "kill x monster 10 times", "bring me this or that".

There is a certain character development system in the game. Our character can be improved in two ways: by upgrading skills and by upgrading items.

The skills change depending on what type of weapon you equip, and the more monsters you defeat with that weapon, the more your skill level increases, letting you unlock more skills in the skill tree.

If you reach the end of a skill level, extra skills unlock and you strive to unlock and develop these as well.

You can enhance the equipment you wear and also upgrade items to a higher tier, although you need to find a pretty good blacksmith for that upgrade.

Finally, items have rarity levels when dropped, and the higher the star level, the better the item is.

The last feature is Skill Fusion, where you fuse by making about 100 - 200 combo normal hits with any NPC on any combat map, or by making a combo based on what weapon you use. This improves features like your attack power and attack speed.

There is a lot more to write about this game, but it's definitely better to experience it by playing.

One of the things I liked best in the game is that you can build relationships with characters. For example, you can get close to the character Asuna and improve your friendship level, so that your duo combos in dungeons with her become much stronger compared to combos with any other character.

There is also a multiplayer option in the game and you can enter dungeons with your friends.
