The other day I turned on my computer and saw that there were green and blue synchronization checkmarks/signs next to the shortcuts on my desktop. I got curious and started researching what they were. What I learned is that Microsoft OneDrive syncs the desktop, and in case I format my computer in the future or log in on a new computer, it provides restoring the items on my desktop to their previous arrangement and background color from that backup.

If you do not want your desktop to be backed up, you can uninstall OneDrive from your computer or prevent it from starting automatically every time your computer boots.

Preventing OneDrive from Opening

It is very simple to prevent/disable OneDrive from starting when your computer boots up.

Open Task Manager and go to the startup tab, then disable OneDrive from there; now OneDrive will no longer open automatically whenever you start your computer.

Uninstalling OneDrive

If you want to uninstall the OneDrive software, what you have to do is very simple.

First, go to settings from the start menu and then go to the apps section.

Now from the apps and features section, you can select and uninstall OneDrive.
