What is a Game Engine?
Game engines are auxiliary programs that we use while developing games.
In addition to game engines, there are also graphics and physics engines. Nowadays, these two engine components are also included within modern game engines.
While making a game without a game engine takes a very long time, thanks to the help of game engines, the production phase of the game is greatly accelerated and we can create beautiful games in a very short time.
Designing a game solely through a code area without visuals is a very challenging task, especially without game engines. Testing games and observing errors is a very difficult process.
Game engines are programs that make our work considerably easier, thanks to their user-friendly interfaces, the ability to show us errors, and their structures that allow us to continuously and repeatedly test the game.
Thanks to the ready-made libraries included in game engines, we can produce more content with less code, and it allows us to easily publish the content we produce on one or more platforms.
If we do not use a game engine, we need to manually add the APIs of the platform we want to publish the game on. This is a very challenging process for a programmer or game developer. Game engines save us a lot of time by supporting multiple platforms and, even for unsupported ones, by sparing us from dealing with these APIs for at least one platform, enabling us to focus solely on the game.
