What is Unity ProGrids? How to Use It? & What Is It For?

Hello friends, in this article I will talk about an add-on in Unity. The name of our add-on is "ProGrids". Let's introduce our add-on and start talking about its features.

What is ProGrids?

ProGrids is an add-on in Unity that draws lines on the scene mode, allowing you to place objects by aligning them to these lines, which makes your job much easier while arranging maps.

What Is ProGrids For?

ProGrids is helpful when designing maps and makes it easier to align objects on the map.
Instead of struggling for minutes with the angle and position values in the property window to align exactly as we want, we can easily set these ranges in the scene using the values we enter in the ProGrids add-on, without any hassle.

How to Install ProGrids?

Yes friends, now let's move on to how to install ProGrids. First, we need to download it from the asset store and then import it.
That's it for the installation, you don't need to do anything extra.
Note: When importing, tick everything to import every file.

How to Use ProGrids?

After the initial setup, a screen like the one below should appear in the scene; more precisely, a toolbox should appear.

If such a screen - toolbox does not appear, you can make it appear by clicking the "tool>progrid>progrid window" button.

Now friends, let's see what the buttons in this toolbox do.

I will explain the features of the tools in the toolbox according to the order of the numbers on the visual above.

Number 1

This tool is actually the settings menu of ProGrids. ProGrids draws lines in the scene and allows you to place objects exactly with these lines because when ProGrids is enabled, objects automatically snap to these lines.
With this tool, you can set settings such as the distance between these lines.

Number 2

Here you adjust whether the lines created by ProGrids are visible on the scene or not.

Number 3

The button to enable or disable ProGrids; this allows you to decide whether objects will be aligned according to ProGrids or not.

Number 4

With this tool, you can make some objects use ProGrids while others do not.

Number 5

With this tool, you can prevent the object from being moved or its angle from being changed. If you want to edit the object later, you need to press the lock icon here to unlock it again.

Number 6

These tools allow you to choose on which axis ProGrids will be applied.

Number 7

This tool enables ProGrids to work on all axes.
